What Do The Bird And Deer Look For?

When Is A Monkey park Not A Monkey Park When It s In Japan

Sometimes you see a sign that really asks more questions than it answers, just like this one from the masters of misinformation and translation, the Japanese bless them.

This sign from a Monkey Park (yes you guessed right) is one of the best exhibits of the Japanese tradition of ‘Ru-bbishy’ which roughly translated means ‘nonsense signage.’

I am afraid that is all of the information I can give my dear cuddly readers I thought the Monkey Park was lovely and so did the Monkeys but I never discovered exactly what the Bird and Deer look for which is quite sad because if I had I would have been able to tell everyone in my latest masterpiece of feline literature ‘The Cat’s Travelogue’ and put some of the other pictures I took of Japan on the Cat’s Diary www-wickedlywonderfulwebsite www.thecatsdiary.com.

Curried Child Anyone?

Ok the publication of my next blockbusting unputdownable book is getting closer as I mentioned yesterday sorry about that but one has to advertise – as President Clinton said if you don’t blow your own trumpet who will an intern? But I digress, here is a picture of a another culinary winner from China which judging by the writing is also a great hit in Japan and Korea “Curry of Mini Child.”

The world is as we know a strange place but it would seem the further east one goes the stranger it gets, you know like going to Brooklyn!

As you can see travelling the world and writing a Travelogue and eating all sorts of weird food was desperately hard, tiring and expensive work even for a good looking Cat and so if you don’t buy my wonderful Travelogue when it comes out I will be deeply distressed and feel very unloved – not to put too much pressure on you dear cuddly readers!

Romney and Hythe’s Little Understatement and Other Attractions

You know the area around Romney and Hythe in Kent, England has a lot of exciting things to see if you are thinking of a family holiday in the UK because the government have taken all of your money and you can’t afford to go somewhere really nice like err… Spain or where the bankers and the politicians who created your newly found poverty go… the Caribbean.

Still Romney and Hythe has some interesting sights, scenes and sounds for all the family.

First of all there is the Royal Military Canal a long flat waterway built for use during the Napoleonic Wars once captured by the french it would have proved invaluable for transporting men and supplies and creating a much wider bridgehead very rapidly. The canal lies flat in some of the prettiest countryside the flat lands of Romney Marsh so it is best seen from bridges.

Romney Marsh Military Canal

The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway which is the world’s smallest public railway is a child’s dream and starts near Hythe town centre and runs fourteen miles across the Romney Marsh to the shingle headland of Dungeness.

Romney Hythe Railway

Dungeness is home to two interesting landmarks the first is a near derelict lighthouse where unsupervised children can climb out onto a ledge hundreds of feet above the ground and lean over a rickety Victorian railing.

From so far up they can see the coast of France a few miles away, the beautiful Romney Marshes on their left and the enormous Dungeness Nuclear Power Station to their right.

Dungeness Power Station and Lighthouse

The nuclear power station is also of interest to the casual visitor not only because of its location on the coastline but also because it bears a striking resemblance to the Fukushima Daiichi Power Station in Japan. In fact they share the same nuclear reactors though of course currently the Dungeness ones are not in meltdown.

Four miles way lies the hamlet of Port Lympne which has nearby the internationally renowned Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.

If after one or two days holidaying in this area and you do get bored why don’t you pass the time by looking at some of the signs around, like this one and try and work out why the obviously needs to be stated so dramatically?

Romney and Hythe Council s Little Understatement

Oh by the way don’t whatever you do go into the sea at Dungeness or along most of the coastline, the beach drops away dramatically underfoot and so in some places if you take three or four strides into the sea the next one will mean you are completely and utterly out of your depth. To make matters worse usually the sea is rough which means if you are not a confident swimmer you will be in trouble.

Some say that the Kent coastline is polluted and with radioactivity from the Nuclear Power station and the local Water Company’s rather inefficient treatment of wastewater, which at times of great ‘demand’ means that raw sewerage is pumped into the sea so it might be an idea to avoid the coast completely.

Japan Earthquake – They Need Our Help Now

Japanese Quake

It’s odd you know that when the last Tsunami struck everyone around the world immediately opened their wallets and pocket books and asked where do we send the cash? So now when the disaster is just as bad why does it seem to me that the reaction is not the same. The press and almost every page you clicked onto on the net for years had “send money to help victims of the Tsunami” signs.

Just because Japan is a rich country or was until recently it doesn’t mean that they are suffering less than the unfortunate people who suffered last time. So my dear cuddly readers we have to send the Japanese some help asap.

If you do decide to help with your cash try to do so directly if you give it to most of the leading charities there is no guarantee that it will be used to help the people you want to send it to. Use the Japanese Embassies near you or a Japanese Bank that way you’ll know that the big charities haven’t taken their 40% for operating costs and then misdirect the funds you donated to some other project.

We must help these poor souls now.

Japanese Disaster

You can find a Japanese Embassy near you from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan list here Japanese Embassies. For local branches of Japanese banks your yellow pages is the best place to go.

The Cat Goes To The Mystic East And Starves!

As the title says I have been to the mystic east – they call it that because no one knows what they are doing and therefore daily life is as much a mystery to the people there as it is to the casual tourist!

Having said that I loved Japan and its exotic mystery but when it comes to food the mystery deepens and frankly I was just to confused to eat to say nothing of being afraid of the descriptions of the food.

Here are two examples of ‘simple’ (you would think) juice and ice cream treats available in Tokyo.

Cool what?

Bluebelly and what?.png

Bluebelly lovely!

Things got worst I have to say when I went to Hong Kong, Dave the Cat had wandered off which is why this menu seemed somehow ominous.

So Tht's What Happened To Dave.png

Braised fresh Dave – No!

So what was I doing in the mystic east apart from starving of course, well I am over half way through my ‘Travelogue’ it is going to be my next book and will soon be out on Amazon.com, any really good bookshop, www.thecatsdiary.com and frankly hundreds of thousands of top quality stockists just like my latest masterpiece of feline literature ‘Getting Out – Excerpts from a Cat’s Diary’ which will be a movie one of these days.

Here Are Some More Signs For Christmas

There are some wonderful scenic areas in Tyne and Wear in the north east of the UK – I promise! That means that there is no reason at all for the Leisure Services Division of Chester-le-Street council to use hype or other forms of unnecessary marketing devices to get people to look at their surroundings but they obviously do! Or is that shamelessly they do!

The sign says it all - the breakdown in English manners education ...jpg

I personally can’t say I like this next sign; but I do wholeheartedly agree with its intentions which I think are designed to stop this sort of ‘behaviour’ because this sort of ‘behaviour’ is extremely unsavoury and of course it almost goes without saying is a national past time for men in the Czech republic and it should be stopped. I believe that because like most Cats I tend not to want to behave like this in public, we are very private waste product providers – it is a little like our charity work ‘anonymous.’

Peeing in Public.jpg

Mind you probably the worst thing about this sign (sent to me by a ‘friend’ in Namibia, a country that if my geography etc., serves me correctly has a majority of Black residents/nationals), is that the person… err ‘performing’ is clearly a white man (might be Elvis in a boiler suit was my first thought).

Why, may I ask, when logic dictates that the people perpetrating this frowned upon or possibly illegal behaviour which obviously carries such a stringent penalty as detailed on the sign, is the guy having a pee white?

I am pretty sure that this sign would be considered racist in the Western World – but then what do I know I am only a humble Cat! Ok I don’t believe the ‘humble’ nonsense either har ha!

Ashamed.jpg

This wonderful sign, made to the usual high and exacting standards of manufacture that the country is renowned for was sent to me by ‘ashamed’ of China – I supposed it touched him!
