There are a lot of Villages in England with ‘interesting names. Take Uphill in Somerset. A place that isn’t actually uphill, but rather ‘above the stream.’ The word Uphill comes from the Old English words uppan, meaning ‘higher’ or ‘upon, and pyll, meaning “tidal creek.”
However nasty is one of my favourites.
